Located two hours drive north from Johannesburg O.R Tambo International Airport, the Waterberg Region offers a number of excellent golf courses and malaria-free game viewing. It is straight forward to reach and easy to self drive, or transfers can be arranged.
Most famous of the courses in the area is the Legend Golf and Safari Resort with its Extreme 19th hole, a par three with a tee box that is reached by helicopter. There is also a championship 18 hole course and a 10 hole, par 3 Tribute Course.
Within a half hour drive is the Euphoria Golf Club, designed by Annika Sorenstam; and slightly further afield is Zebula Golf Club with its roaming antelope and zebra. Elements is another superb course that is highly ranked by Golf Digest Magazine, South Africa. It is possible to base yourself at one of the courses and then play the others in rotation. They all offer accommodation and can be combined with a safari stay at one of the game reserves in the area or with Sun City which is about a 3 hour drive.
In the centre of the region is the Welgevonden Game Reserve with a number of excellent safari lodges and ‘Big 5’ game viewing. It has the added bonus of being malaria-free.
