Westlake Golf Club

Set in the foot hills of the Silvermine Mountains lies one of Cape Town’s most popular courses – Westlake Golf Club. This easy to walk, 18 hole course is noted for it’s towering Pine trees, which line many of its fairways. Many of the trunks are bowed by the south easterly winds and it is easy to tell which is the prevailing wind direction. Ranked in the top 50 courses in South Africa, it offers excellent value for money on a really well kept track.

Westlake has a very interesting, player-friendly design with quite a few dogleg holes. A main characteristic of this course is the openness of its layout. The fairways are fairly wide and short rough. Provided you stay out of the trees, this makes for a potentially low scoring round.

The clubhouse overlooks the most difficult hole on the course, the par-four 18th which is stroke index 1. The view at the turn of this dogleg, stretches over False Bay to the Helderberg Mountains in the distance.

Watch out for the signature par four 12th. The fairway is lined with Pine trees with a sharp dogleg left that almost jumps out at you. The green is small and well guarded on the right by more trees and a bunker.

Westlake is a busy and popular course for locals, as a result visitors can often find themselves playing behind club competitions that slow down play. However members are friendly and relaxed, so go with the flow and enjoy the club facilities to the full with a drink on the terrace afterwards. Watch out for pocket-opening squirrels that hunt for left over snacks in your golf bag as you enjoy a post round libation!

There are good changing facilities and lockers available for a small deposit payment from the membership office located next to the locker rooms.
