Clovelly Golf Club

Hidden in a valley between the villages of Fish Hoek and Kalk Bay in the Cape peninsula, this picturesque course is a firm favourite with overseas visitors on South Africa golfing holidays.

Superbly maintained, the course winds through the valley with tight fairways, plenty of trees and quite a bit of water. Accurate tee shots are needed on this narrow course as the deep rough is a card wrecker.

The modern Clovelly clubhouse is perched high above the course with wonderful views over the holes below, including the 18th which finishes on a tricky, raised green in front of the club house terrace. – Not an approach shot you want to mess up with the members looking on!

There are a number of sharp dog legs on the course so for the really big hitters that can cut corners, it is advisable to leave plenty of time before playing your tee shot. As it is not always possible to see errant golfers who may still be playing a second or third shot from the rough in front.

Located out on the Cape peninsula, the course can be exposed to the strong winds. During the summer months, the prevailing South Easterly runs through the Clovelly valley, which feels like it has become a wind tunnel. This works for and against you, as you play holes into and down wind.

We recommend playing at Clovelly as part of a golfing holiday in South Africa, it is about an hours drive from central Cape Town but can be incorporated into a day on the peninsula with lunch or sight seeing around Boulders Beach and Simons Town.
