Makweti Safari Lodge

Makweti Safari Lodge is in the Welgevonden Private Reserve, in the Limpopo Province. It is an easy three hour self-drive north from Johannesburg and is a perfect location for a malaria-free safari holiday in South Africa.  Air charters and road transfers are also available to the Welgevonden Private Reserve, if you  prefer not to self drive.

Makweti is a luxurious intimate camp with five elegant thatch and stone suites accommodating just 10 guests. The suites are individually decorated with antique treasures and plush furnishings to ensure an intimate, romantic experience. Amenities offered include indoor and outdoor showers, Victorian bath tubs, log fires and private decks with plunge pools. All suites enjoy sweeping views of the bush veld.

Dining
The lodge offers fine dining and a large selection of South African estate wines to choose from. Makweti is a proud member of Chaine des Rotisseurs for culinary excellence and service. Breakfast is an extensive buffet of fruits, cereals and pastries with a choice of hot dishes to follow. Dinners are served on the deck or weather permitting in the outdoor boma area under the stars.

The main lodge is built from natural rock with teak decks overhanging the Makweti gorge. There is a bar, and also the Indaba Lounge where guest are free to sit and enjoy the surrounding views of the bushveld or read a book from the library. There is a also a communal swimming pool and sun deck area.

Game Viewing at Makweti
Game viewing is conducted in open 4×4 vehicles or on walking safaris over 37,000 hectares of wooded mountain landscape. Diverse wildlife, including the Big Five and over 300 species of birds can be seen on the reserve.

The reserve is located north of Johannesburg and can be combined with golfing in the Limpopo region at courses such as Legend Golf Resort, Elements Golf Club or even a stay at Sun City which is a couple of hours drive away.
