Situated in the world renowned Madikwe Game Reserve, Tuningi is a 5 star lodge offering malaria-free safari holidays in South Africa. Out of Africa staff are big fans of the Madikwe Game Reserve which is less crowded than the more famous Kruger National Park. The theme of the décor is ‘Colonial African chic’ and the main thatched lodge offers a sumptuous lounge, a spacious dining room and a well-stocked bar with an impressive rim flow pool that overlooks a watering hole. All interlinked by a sweeping wooden deck that leads to the outdoor dining or ‘boma’ area.

As night sets in, lanterns and candles are lit and the mood goes from bush to baroque. Guests return from their game drive to be presented with a bush extravaganza dinner, prepared by Tuningi’s Executive Chef, served in the boma with a blazing log fire to keep you warm.

Tuningi can accommodate 16 guests in 8 exclusive villas and the lodge itself has been designed in such a way that it can be divided for families, intimate groups or VIPs. The suites were designed to create spacious, airy rooms by blending interiors with the bush utilising retractable doors and windows wherever possible.

All of the guest rooms at Tuningi have air conditioning, ceiling fans, fireplaces, en-suite bathrooms with beautifully appointed baths, outdoor rock showers and private wrap around wooden decks. There are two family suites with an interleading lounge area.

Game Viewing at Tuningi
Tuningi’s game rangers are highly qualified and are enthusiastic and passionate about the environment and wildlife. They give a unique insight into the many aspects of life for the animals and their environment in the reserve.

Game viewing can be either on foot, for those brave enough (!), but usually in 4×4 open air vehicles. Lion, elephant, buffalo, white and black rhino, leopard and the rare and endangered wild dog are some of the amazing sightings to experience during your stay at Tuningi.

Madikwe Game Reserve is 4 hours drive from Johannesburg or a short 40 minute hop by plane to the airstrip. It is only 2 hours drive from Sun City making it an ideal combination, especially for a family safari holiday.
