The Palace Hotel, Sun City

Sun City is unlike any other resort destination in the world. Built on an extinct volcanic crater, the complex is a work of over-the-top fantasy, luxurious in every detail. The Palace Hotel is a lavish 5 star property in the Sun City complex that offers royal hospitality, exquisite décor and exceptional service. Surrounding the hotel is a 25 hectare botanical jungle threaded with meandering paths, cascades, lakes, pools and a variety of water adventure rides. The interior of the palace features mosaics, frescoes and hand-painted ceilings, in tribute to the art and nature of South Africa.

The Palace comprises of 338 rooms and 4 suites – The King, Royal, Africa and Desert suites.  Special features of the standard rooms are the individual entrance foyers, en-suite bathroom, lounge area and butler station.

The rooms come fully equipped with TV, wifi, tea and coffee station as well as a Nespresso Machine. The en suite bathroom has a bath, separate shower and toilet. There is a bar fridge which can be filled on request with your favourite tipples. All rooms have wifi.

All the luxury suites at The Palace have two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms as well as sauna and Jacuzzi baths.

Dining
In keeping with the amazing surroundings of The Palace, both of the restaurants serve excellent cuisine. La Plume is a fine dining restaurant serving European influenced food with a nod to Italian cuisine. The Grill restaurant focuses on seafood and steaks. Both restaurants need to be booked with concierge beforehand to ensure a table.

Buffet breakfast, lunch and dinners are served at the beautifully laid out Crystal Court at the heart of the hotel. The meals are light and delicious and strongly influenced by the cuisine of South Africa and other African styles. It is a short walk or shuttle bus ride to the main resort complex to the other restaurants which are available to all guests.

The Palace Hotel also has two suitably opulent bars – ideal for enjoying cocktails, pre-dinner drinks or a nightcap the Tusk Bar and the elegant Palm Court Lounge offering butler service in true colonial style. In the afternoon High tea is served in the Crystal Court.

During the day lighter bar snacks can be eaten in the Tusk Bar or ordered from the Pool Bar.

The resort offers numerous attractions that are suitable for all ages. The Valley of the Waves is the ever-popular pool where surfing is possible when the wave machine is started up. The water laps onto a large sandy ‘beach’ area, perfect for families to relax and play.

There is also a large water sports lake offering paragliding, water skiing and family-favourites such as bananas, and rings towed behind the speed boats. More sedate activities include horse riding, a visit to the crocodile farm or a Segway Tour around the resort.

Group and private guided game drives are offered into the neighbouring Pilanesberg Game Reserve as well as early morning Hot Air Balloon Safaris. If you’re feeling brave you can also take part in a guided game walk with the rangers.
