Located at the south eastern region of the Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve, MalaMala Safari Lodge has an unrivaled reputation for game viewing anywhere in the world. It is the largest privately owned tract of land adjoining the Kruger National Park, with 12 miles of unfenced common border. We consider this one of the best places for a luxury safari holiday in South Africa and include MalaMala in our Kruger & Cape Town Golf Safari Itinerary.
MalaMala has built up a reputation, not only for its game viewing but the very highest standards of service and food. If game viewing is your priority, then MalaMala must be your choice.
The decor reflects the fact that this was once a hunter’s camp and the walls bear testimony to this with magnificent trophies and memorabilia. Large sumptuous lounges and seating areas open out onto the deck where meals and drinks are served. There is a lovely large infinity pool with sun loungers and for those feeling really energetic, an air-conditioned gym. Watch from the pool or sip an afternoon cooler as elephants, buffalo and game pass along the river bed in front – awe inspiring.
Game Viewing
The ultimate in bushveld game viewing in our opinion. The MalaMala statistics speak for themselves with approx 75% of all guests seeing the Big 5 during their stay. Mala Mala does not share traversing rights with any other lodges so you will not be bumping into other vehicles, only other guests staying on the MalaMala reserve. It is no surprise that film crews from around the world make a beeline for MalaMala to film the big cats. It is renowned for its leopard sightings.
Rooms at MalaMala Main Camp
Styled on traditional African rondavels, the rooms are set back from the river, each with magnificent views into the bush. The double or twin rooms are spacious and airy, each with 2 bathrooms, a seating area and walk-in cupboards. Outside is a private patio with chairs. There is wifi in the rooms.
Rooms at MalaMala Sable Camp
There is a small private camp located in walking distance to the main camp which only has 5 rooms and is perfect for a small group or family stay. The rooms have recently been luxuriously refurbished, with a more contemporary feel, very different from the usual colonial style of Malamala properties. The cam has a separate deck, pool and dining area from the main camp.
Dining
All meals are included, and are served on the deck, or inside the dining area. Depending on the season you will either be served biscuits and hot drinks before you leave on your game drive, and breakfast on your return, or in winter, you will have breakfast before you go out.
There is buffet lunch for those that can manage it, and dinner is served on your return from the evening game drive. On warner evenings dinner is served in the ‘Boma’, under the stars. Rates include all house wines with dinner and meals.

Reviews
In our opinion: If game viewing is your priority then look no further than MalaMala. The 2018 refurbishment will bring this Grande Dam back on a par with the newer lodges but retaining the traditional feel of this classic safari lodge.Call Us
