Princes Grant Golf Club is located 45 minutes drive north from Durban, and is well worth making the journey out. Large greens, undulating fairways and views to inspire. Each hole at Prince’s Grant is unique and provides golfers with a most rewarding and challenging experience. The course has constantly been ranked as one of the top courses in South Africa, but the condition has suffered a little recently, and a redesign and refurbishment of the course was undertaken. The changes are starting to bed in, and we expect it to climb back up the rankings. We would still be happy to recommend Princes Grant for anyone considering South Africa golf holidays based in Durban and it is easy to reach from hotels such as The Oyster Box in Umhlanga Rocks.
The course is located on the coast, nestled between sugar cane plantations and away from the traffic of the city. The first hole looks fairly uninspiring with a wide open fairway dropping down to a standard looking first green. From there on in things change! The Peter Matkovitch designed course is partly links in style and partly parkland. He has made good use of the terrain with challenging holes that cross valleys and wind through the contours of the course.
There is lots of water on the course with some tricky par 3s. There are great views throughout and a stunning hole that runs parallel to the ocean with an elevated tee dropping down into the valley.
A golf cart is recommended, but also at least one caddy per four ball who can show the optimum line, as well as keep an eye on any wayward balls.
A stiff off shore breeze can add to the challenge especially on the par 3’s, a couple of which are played into the prevailing wind, making it hard to keep the ball on the green.
This course is a personal favourite of our staff. You can play Princes Grant as part of our Zulu Kingdom Safari & Golf Holiday Itinerary.

Reviews
March 21 - Princes Grant has finished its course refurbishment and is back open as an 18 hole course. We look forward to playing it again soon to see how the changes have affected the layout.Exactly as you said, we were rather disappointed by the first hole but from then on, the course was amazing. We would have liked to have played it again.
