The Mont Rochelle Hotel and wine estate was acquired by Richard Branson in July 2014. After an extensive refurbishment it reopened a year later. The hotel has a bright airy feel and a new lease of life, it is perfect for a few nights exploring the Cape Winelands or for a Cape golfing holiday.
Set on a hill above the historic village of Franschhoek, Mont Rochelle is a small luxurious hotel and winery with fabulous sweeping views of the surrounding vineyards and mountains. Fruit and wine have been cultivated in Franschhoek since the 18th century when French Huguenots (many of them winemakers) fled to the Cape to escape religious persecution in France. Hence the name of the village which translates as ‘French Corner’. The hotel is just a short drive from a number of golf courses, making it popular with our guests on a golfing holiday to the Cape.
Rooms at Mont Rochelle
The 16 elegant bedrooms and six luxury suites are individually decorated with a classic elegance. The two Cap Classique suites offer guests privacy on grassy terraces overlooking the valley, and private plunge pools. All rooms are equipped with en-suite bathroom, telephone, television, safe, under-floor heating, air-conditioning, mini bars and in-room refreshments.
Dining
With breathtaking views across the valley, Mont Rochelle offers guests the award winning Miko Restaurant. The Country Kitchen Restaurant is located at it’s working vineyard next door, where guests can also sample wines. The fine dining may be enjoyed indoors or on the terrace. Breakfast is also served in the Miko restaurant with magnificent morning views of the estate and Franschhoek valley. There is a colonial-style Cigar Bar in the main building for after dinner drinks.
During the day, guests can order a picnic basket and explore the vineyard on foot, or make their way to the Country Kitchen Restaurant a short stroll from the hotel building, where light lunches are served on the terrace.
Activities
Guests can relax by the pool, enjoy a massage or spa treatment, and wine and dine in style. For those that are more active, the region offers wine tours, horse riding, hiking, biking, trout fishing and golf.
Mont Rochelle makes an ideal base from which to explore the surrounding Winelands, and Cape Town is about an hour’s drive away. The historic town of Stellenbosch is about 20 minutes drive.

Reviews
In our opinion: The hotel offers a sophisticated spot to explore the winelands but commands a higher price tag than other hotels in the region. The standard accommodation can be 'cosy' but the mid range rooms and suites are much more spacious and recommended if you are staying more than a couple of days.Call Us
