River Club, Victoria Falls

The River Club is situated on the Zambian side of the Zambezi River, 18 kilometres upstream from Victoria Falls. The camp has a distinct Edwardian flavour, and guests here enjoy the sights and sounds of Victoria Falls and the Zambezi River in a peaceful and tranquil setting away from the crowds. It is perfect for a honeymoon at the Victoria Falls or combining it with a safari holiday in Botswana.

The main colonial style building houses the dining room, sitting room and reception area. It has a well stocked library which is focused on the history of Southern Africa. The River Club faces west onto the Zambezi River with spectacular views of islands and the Zambezi National Park which are frequented by elephants and hippo.

There are superb views from the large and inviting swimming pool, which is furnished with sun loungers and an ever-vigilant waiter to offer you food or drinks. If you relish style, comfort and relaxation in an elegant colonial setting, then The River Club has this in abundance!

The ten luxurious thatched chalets overlook the Zambezi River, and have en-suite facilities including a bath and separate shower. All the rooms have overhead fans. The rooms are all completely open in the front giving guests an amazing view of the river even from your bath tub!

A River Club evening ritual is the sundowner river cruise, followed by a silver service dinner by candlelight with all guests seated around one long dining table. The owner or manager hosts the dinner and this of course leads to the telling of many stories and the sipping of much fine wine. Post dinner drinks are enjoyed on the veranda facing the Zambezi river, or whilst playing a game of croquet on the lawn.

Sunset Zambezi cruises are a speciality, where you can see hippos, crocs, the occasional antelope on the islands and riverbanks and superb bird life.

There are also canoe trips visit to Musi oa Tunya National Park; visits to historical Livingstone town centre; Livingstone Museum and the Railway museum; visits to the Zimbabwe side of Victoria Falls; nearby African villages and stone age sites that are all included in the rates.

The following activities can be arranged at an extra cost: Game walks and drives, full day canoeing, white water rafting, bungee jumping, helicopter and microlight flights, elephant back safaris and river boarding, horse-riding & clay-pigeon shooting.

It is possible to combine a stay in Victoria Falls with a Botswana safari or in parks in Zambia such as the South Luangwa National Park. It is perfect for a few nights relaxation as part of a honeymoon safari.
